My favorite Beatle's song is I've got a feeling. The song really does not say much but it has a great deal of restrained energy that I feel I can tap into. I first heard it at Skidmore College's Beatlemania concert a number of years ago. The extreme collaboration that went into this song is similar to the work at Informz.
Probably the most interesting part of this song is that it is actually three songs melded together. The song contains Paul McCartney's "I've Got a Feeling" and John Lennon's "Everybody Had a Hard Year", with the main guitar part coming from John Lennon's unfinished "Watching Rainbows". The even stranger part is that McCartney's song was upbeat while Lennon's was about his down year. Certainly it was not obvious to them that they could make the three songs work so well together, yet what they achieved was a much stronger song than either could have been alone. It must have surely been a "You've got your chocolate in my peanut butter" discovery.
This further reminds me of the experience we had when we realized the power of extending CRM and ERP solutions with integrated email marketing. All of the data needed to effectively target mailings was already available in these systems. We had been looking at the problem from an email marketing perspective rather than the client's perspective. Instead of trying to replicate this data in Informz, we just needed to remotely access it and provide segmentation tools. It did not take long for our client's to understand this benefit because they had been asking for it all along! It certainly has been the fuel for our growth over the last four years.
My hat's off to the incredible collaboration of Paul and John. Music gave them the feeling; great solutions to marketing problems give me the feeling.
